"What was I thinking? Why did I even agree to do this?" Those are my most coherent thoughts as the roller coaster creeps slowly to the top. All of my other thoughts have sunk to the pit of my stomach. I can't even form a scream. I just know that I will not survive this ride.
When I walked into the amusement park, I was confident that I would not ride any roller coasters. I would not be talked into it. And then, we stand, my feet securely on the ground, looking at the ride and somehow, someway I get talked into joining the group.
So now, I'm clinging to the bar, knowing that my body will soon be hurtling to the bottom of the hill. Time is in freeze frame. It's pure torment as the roller coaster moves ever so slowly to the peak. I will soon die.
I watch the top cars disappear over the crest. I know that my car will soon be sucked into that great abyss along with those. I have ceased to function. There is no greater terror.

Sunday Afternoon
Sunday afternoon is probably my favorite time of the week. Since I do try to make Sunday a day of rest, I can look at the dust on the shelf, the weeds in the flowers or the laundry in the basket and not feel guilty. I can curl up in my favorite chair with a cup of coffee, an Anne Perry mystery and get lost in the book. If I'm home alone, then I have control of the remote to the TV and can find a sappy chick flick to watch. A nap is always a good option. Or, I can also read the blogs from my creative writing students (which I enjoy doing!).
I think it's the unstructured time that I enjoy. I like knowing that the time is mine to decide how I want to spend it. I can get rather selfish about it, but I do try to share my time with my family and friends!
I'm glad God decided we needed a day of rest!

Rubber Bands
Useful little items. They come stretched tightly around my newspaper so that the Walgreen ads and the sports sections don't end up flying around in my driveway. Since they seem so useful and I might need them sometime, I drop them in the drawer with the pencils, pens, paperclips, post-it pads and other miscellaneous items.
My husband finally got tired of them getting jumbled up with the other non-essentials. He meticulously wrapped each rubber band around a piece of cardboard. So now we have an oblong object made of rubber bands. It is useful in that when I really do need one, I simply find the "group" and peel off one. That happens about once a month. Do I really need 50 rubber bands wrapped together? But, it seems hard to throw out something that could be useful.
I don't think of myself as a pack rat. However, when it comes to something like rubber bands, I save them. I justify it by thinking that I'm recycling them, making them useful a second time. And, I do re-use them. But, again, how many do I need to keep on hand?
But, I would hate to run out of rubber bands!

Welcome!
Welcome to blogging through the creative writing class at Shalom Christian Academy. Blogging is new to me, so I'm learning as I go. Thank you for your patience as I learn with you.
Blogging will allow us to see each other's writings. Each of you will post three (3) blogs per week. One of those will have an assigned topic which will be assigned on Friday. The remaining two posts may be topics of your choice. All three will need to be completed by class on the next Friday.
You will receive up to 3 points for each post. 3 points = well done, you should be proud to post it. 2 points = good, but maybe you could have thought it out a bit more. 1 point = do you really want other people to read this?
I will comment on each of your posts. I will give you your point score privately.
Writing can be private, but it's also good to share. "Creativity takes courage." (Henry Matise)
I'm looking forward to this class and working together!
